Dr. Edward Vaughn Named New Managing Editor
of JEFF Journal
Well known educator takes over from Bill Haile as director of this leading textiles, nonwovens and materials science journal
CARY, NC — December 4, 2008 — Dr. Edward Vaughn has been named the Managing Editor of the Journal of Engineered Fibers and Fabrics (JEFF), an international, peer-reviewed e-Journal that publishes original research on all aspects of fiber science and fabric technologies.
Dr. Vaughn, who retired recently as Professor of Textiles at the School of Materials Science and Engineering at Clemson University, will take over, effective January 1, 2009, from Bill Haile, who served as Managing Editor since JEFF was first published in 2006.
JEFF is jointly published by INDA, Association of the Nonwoven Fabrics Industry; TAPPI, the Technical Association of the Pulp, Paper, Packaging, and Converting Industries; The Fiber Society; and AATCC, the American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists. Operational support comes from a team of highly accomplished Ph.D.’s in North America, Europe and Asia who serve as area editors.
Dr. Vaughn will now be responsible for coordinating all submissions and evaluation of papers for this peer-reviewed online publication. He will communicate with authors and maintain responsibility for the quality of the original content published quarterly in JEFF.
“It is quite an honor and a challenge to take over as Managing Editor of JEFF and I look to build on the work done by Bill Haile and the invited expert reviewers that have made JEFF such a well-respected research publication,” says Vaughn.
“Ed Vaughn has not only published papers but brings a wealth of experience to this position, to enable JEFF to expand on its already strong global presence as a peer-reviewed research journal,” says Haile. “I was fortunate to have been involved from Day 1 with the Journal through a number of milestones to its Thomson Reuters Accreditation.”
“The growth and success that the Journal has experienced, however, is due mostly to the burgeoning research interest and underlying support that the sponsors, area editors and reviewers have so graciously provided,” Haile adds. “For this, I am extremely grateful.”
In September JEFF received official accreditation from Thomson Reuters, which allows it to take its place among a select group of peer-reviewed journals that are noted for advancing research in their field. For authors this accreditation means the inclusion of their work in the Thomson Citation Indexes.
Dr. Vaughn received a B.S. degree in physics and mathematics (Lynchburg College, 1962), M.S. degree in textiles, engineering and science (Institute of Textile Technology, 1964) and Ph.D. in textile physics, under the guidance of J.W.S. Hearle (Victoria University at Manchester, 1969). As an educator, Vaughn’s career spans 40 years in various positions at Clemson University, serving as Department Head, then Director of the School of Textiles from 1977 through 1989 and currently as Professor Emeritus. He has also been a consultant to industry and served as President of the National Council for Textile Education and the Textile Quality Control Association.
